Town Centre, Abington, Kingsthorpe
The older terraced and Victorian homes have concrete and slate roofs. On north-facing slopes, heavy moss is widely spread.
Across Northampton, we clean roofs for residential properties. We remove most of the moss by hand, then soft-wash the tiles at low pressure. To stop algae from returning for 4–5 years, we apply a DDAC biocide. We don’t walk on tiles and never use jet washing. Our team does the work from towers or a cherry picker. Prices for roof cleaning in Northampton start at £600. We operate across all NN1–NN6 postcodes.
We started cleaning roofs in Northampton in 2021. Our teams cover all types of homes: old Victorian terraces in Abington, concrete-tile estates in Spinney Hill, new builds in Upton and Grange Park, and steep country roofs near Brixworth. We have 100+ five-star Google reviews, and you never pay a deposit.
In this area, moss grows fast. There are many trees, the weather is wet, and the pitch of many modern roofs is low. These are ideal conditions for moss. Concrete tiles retain water in the rough surface. Within 5–10 years, moss collects in the gaps between tiles. The situation is even more acute on north-facing roofs and roofs under trees.
Every day, we work at height. We carry £5 million of public liability insurance and hold IPAF and CSCS safety cards. For two-storey homes, we use scaffold towers, while on steeper or taller roofs, we set up the cherry picker (also called a MEWP). There will be no ladders leaning on your gutters or standing on your tiles with us. There is no call centre, either. Peter answers the phone himself. Typically, we need one to two days to clean a roof. You pay after we finish and you’re satisfied with the results.
“I engaged Peter to do a top to toe roof deep clean. My roof had never been cleaned since the house was built, about 20 years ago. It was covered in grit, grime and moss. Several years on, my roof looks fantastic, with the ‘clean and new’ look having improved over time. Highly recommended!”
Moss isn’t just a matter of surface. If not addressed, it has significant negative effects:
All of this can be avoided with roof cleaning followed by a biocide treatment. Plus, the tiles will stay effective.
Every roof cleaning includes three steps, each with a specific role. Take a look at the short version down below. Visit our roof cleaning service page to learn more.
Working from the top down, we remove thick moss by hand. Blasting it with water will crack or shift tiles, so we never do that.
We continue with a soft wash of the entire roof at low pressure. The cleaner we use is gentle and bleach-based. It will kill the algae, lichen and moss left behind, at their root level. We never clean roof tiles with jet washing.
In the end, we apply a DDAC biocide that will inhibit the growth of moss and algae for 4–5 years. It activates every time it rains.
The soft wash method is safe to use on concrete, clay, and slate tiles, which are common across Northampton. Cleaning is done from towers or a cherry picker, so we never have to stand on the roof.
“Pete explained the process in detail and did a fantastic job cleaning the roof. He used a chemical treatment method, which I prefer, as pressure washers can damage roof tiles. A year later, the roof looks like new and the results are beyond my expectations.”

1960s–80s estates with concrete tiles that retain moss in their rough surface.
A mix of modern estates and older village homes with clay, concrete, and the odd steeper roof.
We have many roof cleaning jobs here. In Hunsbury, we’ve cleaned a 20-year-old roof, and it still looks appealing.
Trees drop algae onto the roofs of the new builds and older estates quickly.
Country and village homes, often with bigger, steeper roofs that require access from a tower or cherry picker.
Most roofs need cleaning every 2–3 years. However, if we apply a DDAC biocide, the cleaning can be extended to 4–5 years. On north-facing slopes and under trees, moss will come back faster than in other areas.
“Peter and his team were brilliant! They were knowledgeable and answered any questions I had about the process thoroughly. I am amazed at the transformation of the roof and have already had people commenting on how lovely it looks.”
One of our most requested jobs in Northampton is cleaning concrete tile roofs that are covered in moss. Let’s take, for instance, October 2024. On the ridges, in the valleys, and across the tiles, there was thick moss. Debris from the roof was filling the gutters. Accessing from a cherry picker, we hand-scraped moss. After we’ve soft-washed the tiles, we’ve applied a DDAC biocide for 4–5 years of protection. No tile was moved, and the gutters were left clear. Nobody stood on the roof at any given moment.
This is just an example of our many clay and concrete tile roof cleaning across Northampton between September 2025 and January 2026. On our Northampton roof cleaning project page and on the October 2024 moss clean, you can check out the before-and-after photos. We also clean and paint clay tile roofs using a cherry picker.
Heavy moss stripped by hand from the hip; soft wash revived the original clay-tile colour.
Typical mid-pitch estate roof in NN2/NN5 — moss in every channel, finished with DDAC biocide.
Multi-pitch slate cleaned with cherry-picker access — no foot traffic on the slates at any point.

We use scaffold towers or a cherry picker for cleaning. Walking on the tiles or resting anything on them won’t happen. There will be no cracked or shifted tiles, because there will be no foot traffic.
Heavy moss is removed by hand scraping, and delicate tiles are cleaned with a soft wash. We choose the right and safe method for concrete, clay, slate, and flat roofs. High-pressure jet washing will crack tiles, so we never clean them this way.
Two-storey homes will require us to set up scaffold towers. For steeper or taller roofs, we install a cherry picker (MEWP). All our operatives have IPAF and CSCS safety cards.
We take photos before, during, and after completing the roof cleaning. We will provide a short written report for your records, so you can see exactly what changed.
With us, you don’t need to give us any card details up front or pay any deposits. You won’t have to contact a call centre, either. Peter answers the phone himself. You pay on job completion if the results are satisfactory.

We come to your home in Northampton, examine the roof and the access, and provide you with an estimate — no hidden fees, no deposit, and no pushy sales either.
On the scheduled day, we come and clean the roof from the cherry picker or towers. It’s never off the tiles.
Before we leave, we remove all moss and debris from the gutters and off the ground.
You pay us after we finish, and you like the results.
Should we find any roof issues, such as damaged flashing, cracked or slipped tiles, we will inform you on the spot. Addressing it early will stop water from seeping in. We will start after we cover the drains and protect the plants by watering them. Anyway, the cleaner we use doesn’t harm pets or plants.

No. All cleaning is done from scaffold towers or a cherry picker. Standing on the tiles or resting equipment on them is never a part of our roof cleaning. The risk of cracking or displacing them is minimal to none.
Absolutely not, because we never use jet washing or walk on the roof. We remove moss by hand, soft wash the roof at low pressure, and work from towers or a cherry picker. Our roof cleaning doesn’t cause shifting, cracking, or damage to the tiles.
Yes. We clean roofs across all NN1 to NN6 postcodes: Town Centre, Abington, Kingsthorpe, Spinney Hill, Weston Favell, Moulton, Hunsbury, Grange Park, Delapre, Duston, Upton, Kings Heath, Brixworth, Long Buckby, and the surrounding villages. Inside Northampton, we don’t charge extra for travelling.
Every 2–3 years. If we also apply DDAC biocide, roof cleaning can be done every 4–5 years. On roofs facing north or under trees, moss grows faster, so cleaning will be needed sooner than on other roofs. It’s the case of properties in Duston, Kings Heath, and the NN6 villages.
Yes. We set up scaffold towers on two-storey homes and a cherry picker (MEWP) on steeper and taller roofs. The bigger country roofs around Brixworth and Spratton are examples. Our cleaners doing access work possess IPAF and CSCS certification.
