Exterior Cleaning Across Luton & the LU Postcodes

Luton is not one kind of town to clean. It sits in a gap in the Chilterns chalk, where the River Lea rises, and its housing tells the story of a place that grew fast - Victorian and Edwardian terraces around High Town and Bury Park, sweeping inter-war semis through Stopsley and Round Green, large post-war estates at Marsh Farm and Lewsey, and newer rendered developments out towards Wigmore. The roof over each of those is different - natural slate, clay, concrete interlocking tile - and so is the right way to clean it. The damp, shaded streets and the chalk-and-clay ground underneath give moss and algae plenty to work with, particularly on north-facing slopes and anything under the town's mature trees.

That variety is exactly why we survey first and match the method to the property. A recent example is a large home in Luton (LU1) where we cleaned the lower roofs, gutters, fascias, soffits and brickwork and jet and steam cleaned the patio, all in one visit - you can read that project and the homeowner's review further down this page.

The Whole Exterior, One Visit

In Luton, most exterior cleaning companies only work on a surface - some do the roof, others clear gutters, and some others spruce up driveways. We do them all. If your roof, gutters, walls and patios turned green, we can handle them all in just one visit. You get a single quote and just one team to do the job. There will be no need to book three or four distinct contractors. You won’t have to wait for different contractors to come on different days.

With a full-house exterior cleaning, we will treat the property as a single job. Tasks will all be related. We check every surface and work top-down so that we don’t get dirty again, something that has already been cleaned. The benefit for Luton homeowners is plain and obvious: there’s just one phone call, one team on site, one invoice, and the entire exterior of the house will be refreshed.

You don’t need to book everything right from the start. Many clients call us for the surface that shows the most visible signs of wear, and add the other surfaces later. However, if you want your property managed in a single visit, count on our services. The saving from having it all handled in just one visit will be reflected in the quote.

The Properties We Clean Across Luton

Luton’s roofscape and walls vary from street to street, and so do our cleaning methods. We know how to clean them all: slate, clay and concrete tile, pebbledash and modern render, block paving and natural stone. This is what we clean in the region week after week.

Victorian & Edwardian terraces

Around High Town, Bury Park, the terraces off Old Bedford Road and Dallow Road and through South Luton - many of them are two and three storeys under natural slate or older clay. Roofs are brittle, often steep, and we never walk on or pressure-wash them. After meticulous manual removal of moss, we only soft-wash them.

Inter-war semis

Stopsley, Round Green, Limbury and parts of Leagrave - semi-detached and bay-fronted homes with clay and concrete tile roofs, with plenty of pebbledash and painted render. Here we find the classic Luton semi, which makes up most of our residential exterior cleaning.

Post-war & modern estates

Marsh Farm, Lewsey, Sundon Park, Bramingham and the newer developments around Wigmore - mostly concrete interlocking tile with modern silicone or monocouche render and block-paved drives. We turn to another cleaning strategy again.

Cleaning a slate terrace in High Town differs from cleaning a rendered new-build in Wigmore. We build our strategy around the property’s fabric. With the free survey, we need to confirm what your property means for the cleaning - the tile, the render type, the access - and choose the right cleaning methods based on that.

Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal in Luton

Moss, algae, and lichen thrive on roofs in cool, damp winters and on tree-lined streets, especially if they face north. These are describing Luton. If not addressed, moss retains water against the tile, gets into the laps and joints, and washes into the gutters below. There, it causes blockages, overflow and damp. Our roof cleaning in Luton eliminates moss growth and restores the tiles to almost like-new appearance.

Clay, concrete, and slate roofs are the most common tiles in Luton homes, and we clean them all. Around High Town and the centre, we manually clean and gently soft-wash the slate and older clay. We never use pressure washing on them. However, across the suburban estates, we use firmer methods that suit the concrete interlocking tiles. For longer-lasting results, we can apply a DDAC biocide. It provides a 4-year guarantee against moss and algae regrowth. It’s a wise investment, considering Luton’s shaded, tree-covered streets.

Visit our roof cleaning page to learn more about how we clean various tile types, access and the moss removal process.

Gutter, Fascia & Soffit Cleaning in Luton

The no.1 common cause of damp in a house is blocked gutters. It’s easy to forget them. Many remember gutters only when it’s late, as water runs down the wall or drips behind the fascia. Throughout the year, leaves, moss, and grit will fill the gutter, especially across Luton’s older terraces and inter-war semis. Instead of running to the downpipe, water will spill over the edge. That’s why it soaks into render or brickwork, fascia boards rot, and water gets inside. All of this is cleared with our gutter cleaning in Luton, restoring the system’s flow.

Our gutter cleaning includes areas that many people overlook. Along with clearing the gutters inside and freeing the blocked downpipes (if any), we wash down the uPVC fascias and soffits. Over time, they turn green and black, and our work restores the clean white roofline finish. If it’s a two-storey home, we don’t need to lean ladders on the guttering to clear and wash the roofline. Should we find any issues, such as a sagging run, a cracked bracket, or a split downpipe, we will let you know.

See the gutter and fascia cleaning page for the in-depth presentation.

Render & Brick Cleaning in Luton

Some of the most visible surfaces of a house are rendered and brick walls. They are also the first to show wear. Across Luton, we see many of both: inter-war semis often have pebbledash and painted render, while newer developments have modern silicone and monocouche. Through the older streets, we see a lot of red and yellow brick. A dull, patchy, and green render and streaked and tired brickwork - it’s because of algae, moss, and weather staining. Cleaning render or brick will lift the growth and make them look even and brighter.

We clean render with softwashing. Using soft washing, we apply a cleaning solution at low pressure to break down and kill the growth at its source. Afterwards, we gently rinse it away. High pressure will crack and blow render, so we never use pressure washing on rendered walls. K-Rend, monocouche and silicone, as well as older pebbledash and painted finishes, all get the same soft wash. As it’s more robust, we clean brickwork using a firmer method to lift algae from the brick face and mortar joints.

Check out our render cleaning page for more on the method and the render types we clean.

Driveway, Patio & Pressure Washing in Luton

Weather affects driveways and patios, and they become green, slippery, and darken after a few seasons of rain, fallen leaves, and shade. Our pressure washing in Luton removes algae, dirt, weeds, and deeply set grime from surfaces and joints. Our work eliminates the slip hazard on a shaded patio and revives the paving’s colour.

We clean all types of hard surfaces - block paving, natural stone and concrete flag patios, concrete, tarmac and resin-bound driveways, paths and steps. We don’t blast everything at the same pressure, but adjust the method to the surface. On the LU1 project below, we’ve cleaned the patio with both jet and steam cleaning. This way, we didn’t gouge the surface to lift the organic film from the stone and the joints. On the same visit, we can also treat oil stains, tyre marks, and difficult black spotting.

When homeowners want more durable cleaning results for their paving, they can apply surface treatments. See the pressure washing page for the full details.

Longer-Lasting Results: The 4-Year Guarantee Option

While a standard exterior cleaning makes the surface presentable on the day, it doesn’t permanently remove organic growth. This will regrow after some time. The damp climate and Luton’s tree-lined streets make up ideal conditions for moss and algae to grow. For homeowners who don’t want to repeat the cleaning every couple of years, we can apply the DDAC biocide treatment. It ensures a 4-year guarantee against moss and algae regrowth.

The residue left by the DDAC on the surface persists long after cleaning because it kills spores as they try to regrow. It will take years, not months, for the organic matter to regrow. Many clients choose the roof treatment, as re-cleaning the roof is a tedious, disruptive service to repeat. We can apply the treatment to the render and other surfaces, too. This isn’t part of a standard clean, but an optional add-on. When we quote, you can decide whether the longer protection is worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, if your part sits within Luton LU postcodes (LU1 to LU4) - from High Town, Bury Park and the central terraces out to Stopsley, Wigmore, Leagrave, Limbury, Marsh Farm and the rest. We also cover Dunstable, Houghton Regis and the neighbouring Bedfordshire area. Call us if you’re nearby and not sure.

Of course, we can. In fact, this is one of our main strengths. We clean the roof, gutters, render or brick, and the patio or driveway in just one visit. You get one quote, which is typically quicker and saves you more than booking different specialist jobs.

Yes, and it’s for 4 years. Our DDAC biocide treatment prevents moss and algae from regrowing for 4 years, especially on roofs. A standard clean will only refresh the surface on the day of the clean. However, for long-lasting cleaning results, add the treatment. In Luton’s shaded, tree-lined streets, moss and algae regrow more quickly without the treatment.

No, that’s why we don’t use it. High pressure will crack render, so we only clean it with low-pressure soft washing. Slate and older clay roofs are prevalent around central Luton. We manually clean them and use soft washing. We don’t walk on them or jet-wash them. Pressure and jet washing are only used when safe on the surfaces, mainly driveways, patios, and other hard surfaces.

Once or twice a year for gutters, and less often for roofs, render, and driveways. The frequency depends on the property’s surface, shade, and dampness. With a DDAC treatment, the frequency between cleanings is greatly expanded.
