Green
The most frequent. It’s algae, and a soft wash will kill it in a few hours.
We clean rendered walls for residential properties across Northampton. To remove green, red, and black algae from the render, we use a soft wash at low pressure, making it look clean in one day. Repainting won’t be necessary. High pressure can damage the render’s finish, so we never use it. Pricing for render cleaning in Northampton starts at £250. We accept cleaning jobs throughout NN1–NN6 postcodes.
Cleaning render in Northampton started for us in 2021, and we’ve completed more than 500 jobs since then. We cover every type of rendered wall: new-build K-Rend in Upton, Kings Heath, and Grange Park; painted render and pebbledash on older town homes; and full house exteriors across the county. We don’t request a deposit and have more than 100 five-star Google reviews.
In this area, it’s only a matter of time until render turns green and black. Since the weather is wet and mild, K-Rend, monocouche, and any textured surfaces retain water. That’s enough for algae to hold. On north- and east-facing walls, dampness takes the longest to dry, and walls near trees or shaded fences suffer the most.
We never use jet wash to clean render; we only use low-pressure soft washing. We carry £5 million of public liability insurance and hold IPAF and CSCS safety cards. There’s no call centre—Peter takes all calls. We only need a few hours to a day to complete a house render cleaning. You will pay after we complete the job and you are happy with the results.
“Peter, Neil and the team take care and pride in the service they provide. We are very happy with the roof and render clean and it has made a massive difference to our home.”
Despite what most people think, green or black render doesn’t need repainting. Most of the time, repainting isn’t needed.
Once you add scaffolding and materials, you will pay £2,000 or more for repainting. The results can be patchy and, one or two years down the line, algae will probably return. Because it addresses both the cause and the appearance, a soft wash will refresh the render and make it look like new. Pricing is £250–£350 for most residential jobs in Northampton.
Typically, the render underneath has no issues. The correct soft wash will revive its original colour. It will also allow the render to breathe. If render is painted or sealed, moisture will be trapped in the wall. However, when algae is removed, the surface will be healthier for the render over time.
Algae on render is more than meets the eye. Here’s what happens when it’s not addressed:
Algae and biofilm aren’t surface dirt. They grow deep into the render’s tiny pores. This is why regular or DIY pressure washing is effective for a short time. The growth inside isn’t gone and will start to show after a while. With our soft wash, the results are durable because the method works at the root cause.
Over 500+ jobs, we’ve created our own cleaning technique. The method doesn’t stress render and cleans by treatment. Have a look at the process, in a nutshell. Check out our render cleaning service page for full details on every algae type.
Before we start, we protect all windows, doors, plants, and landscaping. We also water the plants.
We apply a gentle, bleach-based cleaner at low pressure. It’s as strong as a garden hose pressure. We allow the solution to sit to remove the algae, biofilm, and lichen from the render. The render will look new immediately. We never clean render with high pressure.
We can also add a DDAC biocide—it’s extra. Every time it rains, the treatment is activated. The render will be algae-free for more than 5 years.
Using low pressure, we rinse the wall and examine every side of the house afterwards. Around rooflines, windows, and downpipes may require a re-treat—spots are typically difficult there. We aim for an even finish.
This process is effective on K-Rend, monocouche, Weber, silicone render, painted render, pebbledash, and older sand-and-cement render: the common finishes across Northampton. There will be no scaffold costs, because we can reach up to 20 metres with a cherry picker. In just one visit, the entire house will be done.
We use the same treatment for all: soft washing followed by an optional biocide protection.
The most frequent. It’s algae, and a soft wash will kill it in a few hours.
Might look like rust. However, it’s another type of algae, growing deeper into the render. Even though we will kill it on the day, the rusty colour will fade in 1–4 weeks. Rain and sun will break it down.
A biofilm of algae and small fungi that also capture soot. In the following weeks, the dark marks will rinse away, as the soft wash kills them on the day.
This is lichen. After the treatment, we gently remove them.
Trentepohlia algae produces a rust-red pigment. Soft wash kills it on the day; staining fades over weeks.
Cyanobacteria and fungi mixed with soot. One soft wash treatment kills them at the root.
Stubborn grey crusts on older town homes. Treated and then gently removed by hand.
This is why a cleaning may turn into a re-rendering. Sometimes, we get requests after DIY or cheap pressure washing that left the render looking patchy. Here’s what high-pressure jets do on K-Rend, monocouche, silicone, and thin-coat render:
Typically, the damage is permanent. This is why we always use soft wash at garden-hose pressure and give the treatment time, not force, to work.
Send Peter a few photos on WhatsApp. He will tell you what grows on the render, whether it can be cleaned, how we would do it and how much you will pay. Typically, there’s no need to visit.
Across Northampton, render varies, and we adjust our method and dwell time according to its kind.
Here we often find new-build K-Rend and silicone render. Under tree cover, green and black algae return on north-facing walls within 3–5 years.
We have many jobs here. The modern estates have textured K-Rend and monocouche.
Older painted render and pebbledash on Victorian and inter-war homes, often present grime as well as algae.
A mix of estate render and village homes, where shaded, damp walls grow algae fastest.
Within a couple of years, most render will develop algae if it’s not protected. Considering the UK climate, this is expected. For 5+ years of protection, an optional DDAC protection is available.
“Had our render cleaned today and our flat roof. Great work and great customer service. See you in a few years, to keep it looking like new.”
We soft-wash render most weeks in Northampton; one of our most popular jobs here is removing green and black algae from K-Rend and painted walls. September 2025 is a good example. Black algae covered every wall of an entire house; the situation was difficult on the shaded north side and under the roofline. After we’ve soft-washed the walls, we’ve treated the difficult streaks around the windows and downpipes once more, and concluded with a DDAC protection. In just one visit, the render had a bright, even finish, close to its original colour. Plus, there was no need for scaffolding.
Through 2025 and into 2026, we’ve completed many full-house render cleans across Northampton; this was one of them. Check out the before-and-after photos on our full house render clean project page and our render, brick and patio clean from February 2026. Our portfolio also includes bigger jobs: back in 2024–2025, we cleaned the render on several multi-storey blocks for Northampton City Council.
Front elevation softwashed, doorway and porch detailing protected throughout.
Painted render and stone-effect surrounds restored without affecting paintwork.
Multi-storey council and housing-association blocks cleaned with cherry-picker access.
Prices for render cleaning in Northampton start from £250. The size of the house and the amount of algae directly affect the price.
We include low-pressure soft washing and protection for your plants and drains in the price. For more durable results, we can also apply the optional DDAC biocide. Typically, we can give you a quote up front based on a few WhatsApp photos. There’s no need for a visit. You will pay what we estimate. We don’t charge for travelling inside Northampton and don’t have any hidden costs either.

We don’t paint over the render you have, but restore it. The render is the same, but with a refreshed, clean colour. Repainting it with a scaffold will cost £2,000+, so you’ll save money.
Using garden-hose pressure, we clean the render and allow the cleaner time to work. We never use a jet wash because it damages the colour and texture of K-Rend, monocouche, and painted render.
Across our 500+ jobs, we’ve created a process and access setup that lets us complete a house in a single visit. Using a cherry picker, we reach up to 20 metres. There are no delays or costs for the scaffold, and the finish is even.
Keep your render algae-free for 5+ years by adding the optional DDAC protection. Every time it rains, the treatment will activate and cleaning won’t be necessary as often.
With us, there’s no deposit and no upfront payments. Peter answers the phone himself, and we charge you after we finish the job, to your satisfaction.

Send Peter a few photos on WhatsApp or book a free visit. He’ll tell you what’s growing on the render and whether we can clean it. You’ll receive a clear quote — no deposits and no pushy sales.
We will come as scheduled and run a soft wash of the walls at low pressure. There’s no scaffold or jet wash. We do it all from a cherry picker.
After we rinse, we clear up the surface and leave everything as we found it.
You only pay after we complete the job and our results are satisfactory.
Before we begin, we cover the drains and protect the nearby plants by watering them. When used like so, the cleaner won’t harm pets or plants. We’ll inform you if we discover damaged render, cracked window sills, or blocked downpipes while we’re working. If there’s something we cannot clean, we will let you know upfront. For instance, a soft wash cannot fix rust damage in tiles.
The cost for render cleaning in Northampton starts at £250 for a semi-detached house or a K-Rend clean. For larger detached homes, the prices start at £300, and a full house exterior from £350. The size and amount of algae directly affect the price. For optional DDAC protection, the price is £100–£150; the render will remain algae-free for 5+ years. The price includes soft washing and plant protection and is the same as the quote.
Not necessarily. Even if the render looks green, red, or black, typically, it has no issues underneath. A soft wash will be enough to revive its colour. For repainting, you will pay more than £2,000, or even more if a scaffold is required. The finish might be patchy, and algae will return. For a fraction of that, the soft wash will refresh the render you have.
Absolutely. In fact, they’re typical of Northampton’s newer estates like Upton, Kings Heath, and Grange Park. Only soft wash at low pressure can be used on K-Rend and monocouche. High pressure will erode the texture and expose the underneath colour. For 5+ years of protection, add the optional DDAC treatment.
No, because we never clean it with high pressure. Instead, we soft wash at garden-hose pressure. The method is safe for K-Rend, monocouche, silicone, painted render, pebbledash, and sand-and-cement render. We never use high pressure because it damages the render, causing permanent colour loss and tiger-striping.
Because the weather here is wet and mild, and textured render retains that moisture in its surface. Green marks are algae, while red or orange marks are deeper algae. The black streaks are, in fact, a biofilm of algae and fungi. North- or east-facing walls, or those near trees, stay damp the longest. On them, algae grow the fastest.
For 5+ years, when you add the optional DDAC protection. The treatment will reactivate whenever it rains and keep the render algae-free. Without protection, algae will slowly return in a couple of years—it’s expected with any render in the UK.
